DRESSING A SHOP WINDOW WITH A STONE-EFFECT BACKDROP

A shop window is won or lost in three seconds, through a pane of glass, on a passer-by who had not planned to stop. The backdrop decides what you see of the product. The Óros decorative panel brings a textured rock face to it, up to 85 mm deep, hand-painted panel by panel: a material that no painted backdrop, no vinyl graphic and no printed board can reproduce, because it has volume and casts real shadows.

WHERE TO FIT IT, AND FOR WHICH RETAILERS

Three uses dominate. The window backdrop, glued to the wall, which becomes the permanent set against which the merchandising changes season after season. The plinth or display structure, whose vertical faces you clad to raise a product on a mineral base. And the panel mounted on a freestanding board, plywood or timber on feet, which you move, turn or store between campaigns: the format for retailers who change their windows several times a year, for pop-up stores and for temporary concessions.

The panel works anywhere the product on display is finely made and the backdrop has to keep quiet: jewellery, watchmaking, leather goods, perfumery, cosmetics, optics, fashion, furniture, homeware. The raw texture contrasts with leather, metal, glass and polished wood. Nor does its use stop at the window: the wall behind the till, a concession or the front of a reception counter follow the same logic, a vertical surface seen head-on where you are looking for a visual anchor.

WHAT IT CHANGES BEHIND THE GLASS

A shop window has one permanent enemy: reflection. During the day the glass throws back the street and the sky, and the passer-by sees their own reflection rather than the product. A smooth, light backdrop amplifies it; a matt, textured mineral surface breaks it up and absorbs part of it. Lighting works the same way: the adjustable spotlights on overhead tracks, aimed downwards along the backdrop, produce exactly the grazing light that carves out a texture. Sharp shadows, strong contrast, visual depth. The equipment is already there; it just needs re-aiming.

One thing to measure before anything else: Óros depth goes up to 85 mm, which adds to the backdrop's current dimension. In a window 60 cm deep, that reduces the display space by the same amount. The substrate then needs to be clean, dry, flat and dust-free, and the panel is glued with KÓLLA adhesive straight onto plasterboard, plaster, plywood, timber or painted surfaces, with nothing stripped out first. The job is dry, with no rubble and no noise, and can be scheduled outside opening hours.

INSTALLING YOUR ÓROS PANEL: WHAT TO KNOW

Installation is within reach of a DIYer with a jigsaw and a caulking gun. The panel is glued straight onto the existing wall, with no stripping out and no building work, on plasterboard, wood, tile, concrete and painted surfaces. The substrate simply needs to be dust-free, dry and sound. KÓLLA adhesive has enough initial grab to hold the panel as soon as you press it on by hand: no props, nothing to hold in place while it cures.

For upkeep, a vacuum with a brush attachment or a slightly damp sponge is enough; avoid dry cloths and scouring pads, which catch in the texture.
