CLADDING FURNITURE IN STONE EFFECT: ISLAND, BAR, COUNTER

Cladding the vertical face of a unit in stone changes a room without touching the walls. An island end panel, a bar front, a reception counter: these are flat surfaces usually left as they are, even though they are seen head-on and close up. The Óros decorative panel is glued straight onto them, 1.38 m² covered per panel, under 10 kg per square metre, 10 to 85 mm of depth. It is not designed, by contrast, for a horizontal worktop, which takes abrasion, impacts and direct contact with hot pans.

WHAT IT WORKS ON

The panel applies to the vertical surfaces of furniture: kitchen island end panel, bar front and apron, reception counter in a shop, hotel or restaurant, the base of a TV unit, the front of a reception desk. What these surfaces have in common is being flat, vertical and seen head-on, three conditions that match exactly what the panel is good at.

One thing to check before you start, and one that is always forgotten: the added thickness. Óros depth goes up to 85 mm, which adds to the unit's current dimension. On the end panel of an island in a kitchen where the walkway is 90 cm, that reduces the clearance by the same amount. Measure before you order, allowing for the maximum depth and not the average thickness.

WHY CLAD A UNIT RATHER THAN REPLACE IT

Cladding an island end panel in natural stone would mean reinforcing the structure of the unit, sometimes redesigning it entirely. Óros stays under 10 kg per square metre, which makes it possible to work on a standard kitchen carcass with no structural work. That is what makes this kind of project viable on existing furniture, and not only on bespoke joinery.

Each panel is hand-painted in our workshop and shows slight variations in tone and material. On a unit, that detail matters more than on a wall: you look at an island end panel from fifty centimetres, sometimes while leaning on it. At that distance, a printed texture or a repeated pattern is spotted instantly.

The texture responds to direct light. A spotlight above a bar, an offset pendant above an island, an LED strip under a reception counter: each casts shadows that give volume to what was only a flat front. Cutting with a jigsaw lets you work around a foot rail, a socket or a corner return.

INSTALLING YOUR ÓROS PANEL: WHAT TO KNOW

Installation is within reach of a DIYer with a jigsaw and a caulking gun. The panel is glued straight onto the existing wall, with no stripping out and no building work, on plasterboard, wood, tile, concrete and painted surfaces. The substrate simply needs to be dust-free, dry and sound. KÓLLA adhesive has enough initial grab to hold the panel as soon as you press it on by hand: no props, nothing to hold in place while it cures.

For upkeep, a vacuum with a brush attachment or a slightly damp sponge is enough; avoid dry cloths and scouring pads, which catch in the texture.
